THE HAUNTED Frontman Says BLABBERMOUTH.NET Detractors Are 'Making Fools Of Themselves'

April 13, 2007

THE HAUNTED frontman Peter Dolving has posted the following message on his MySpace page:

"I get off the bus in Portland, Oregon. Rain and kind of a grey day. We all have a fucking cold, sniffling and coughing. I get a massage from one of my friends, I feel like I'd be lost without friends out here. the Jupiter Hotel, I dig the place, cool looking clean place, it was funny. Instead of a mint on the pillow they had a little YES/NO thing with a condom on it. I thought that was cool. The show was one of those where all our focus went into just playing, I think the crowd really didn't know how to react. Five really hyper focused dudes with fever glazed eyes and an inbetween song rant straight out of Burroughs' 'Queer'. I had fun. I'm not sure anyone got it.

"I read some comments to one of my blogs on Blabbermouth and cracked up at the beautifully moronic level. People making fools of themselves referring to redundant thinkers and outdated philosophers, name-dropping to flex their little quasi-intellectual machissimo bullshit. It's all the same, boneheads come in many shapes and they never read Bertrand Russel.

"All day in Portland it's day of marvels. I make a new friend. That's the true fullness of it all. I realize it doesn't matter to anyone else, but I'll still write about it. It gives me hope. I see love works. I'm digging the complexity of it. One day? That concept feels like it's melting away. Right here, right now. Why go running for something over the rainbow when it's at our fucking feet? Let's dig the life.

"Ron Luce of Battlecry and Acquire the Fire.... Is that Luce fire kids...? Radical Christian Stormtroopers? Really... Fucking walk with me here. This dude is a complete nutter OK? God, if there is such a thing as a biblical patriarchal deity, wants us all to fuck, suck, get smashed, fall into the gutter, snort coke, drop acid, have anal intercourse, watch porn, eat all the pussy or suck all the dick you can before marriage, fuck — ANYTHING goes in the aspiration to find yourself. If there's such a thing as a god — He loves homosexuals, heterosexuals, transgender folk, sheep humpers and their brother too. No shit. About 10-20 percent of us won't be able to deal that stuff with any kind moderation and die or find help, and the other folks to the greatest extent actually find their middle ground or just grow tired of if. Fuck that anti humanism bible thumping bullshit OK? BattleCry my ass allright? This Ron Luce IS fucking Satan OK? Sodom and Gomorra? They where great places, the assholes who wrote the fucking bible were just jealous for not getting any. Simple as that, of course they love seeing the destruction of the places. But fucking god has nothing to do with it. Murdering thieving bastards like Abraham and his diabolic fucking creed of donkey raping, woman hating, child abusing murderers had everything to do with it. 'Yey! Let's say it's hmmm, oh, I know... GOD MADE ME DO IT!' Christian Rock? Fuck that. Neo Nazi Fucking Bullshit. Same shit different name. If you believe what the bible says, you're a fucking moron. Sorry, but that my lovely ones is my opinion.

"Christianity is for people who are afraid of going to hell. Spirituality is for those of us who went there, didn't like it much and left. The Ron Luces and Jim Bakkers of this world are dangerous fuckholes. Vampires with a nasty hidden agenda and a bone to pick. I say Fuck em!

"Oh by the way did I mention I love the word 'fuck?'

"I get out of the bus in Utah, blazing sunshine. The body has adjusted itself to transit reality. I sleep most of the day, at night after the shows it's the routine; Stretch, Eat, Burn time. I usually level out mentally about two to three hours after the show. But I'm not really thinking until after about five afterwards.

"Sitting on a mailbox listening to one of the guys on the tour trying his best to communicate I can't help thinking how bitter he sounds. I tell him, and he acknowledges it, says his girlfriend left him for it, does a slick circle around the subject and squirms his way out of it. His justifications still intact. I wish I could do something to help him lighten up, but he quotes Peter Steele and I figure the only thing that'll make him happy is pain. I don't agree with that approach to life. I think it's a bit demonstrative, childish even, and I guess counter productive. If the sun shines, enjoy it a little, it gets cold at night you know.

"Pointing fingers isn't what I'm trying to do with my writing. Nor is it some exercise in self-elevation. I want to share. Nothing more.

"When I was younger I had dreams of becoming a writer, I kept trying and I always failed. I failed because I didn't have the right motivation. I kept dwelling on how my words would be percieved, how I would be percieved. For years that was my main obstacle in everything I did in life. But I'll let you in on a secret; How what I write is percieved and who I am, are not the same thing...

"A German friend told me German Scheisse Films are mostly made in Austria. I believe him. Austria, like Utah is a beautiful place. Utah have Mormons, Austria have Jörg Haider — what more is there to say? I really had fun that night. The crowd was great, I don't think the promotor was too happy with us though. We came in to the club right around noon, it was an old movie theatre with PA smaller than the one we have in our practice space. Our tour manager talked to the promoter and pointed out to him that it wasn't adequate equipment and the promoter got somewhat upset. He reasoned that no one had complained before. Our [tour manager] explained that he wasn't complaining, merely stating the fact. Had he signed the agreement sent to him by our booking agent? Yes. Did he read it?

"A couple of hours later a couple more speakers appeared, and a few effects. We were all laughing, because to us it felt so absurd. It was pretty much a clash of realities. We play a lot of shows. We want our audience to have the best possible experience and having been on the road in this band and many others since we were kids as the '80s turned to '90s; we know it's not always promoters take things like sound into the whole calculation of things.

"I guess music isn't always the main motivation with promoting shows. I felt kinda bad for the guy though. I mean, I remember when I first started promoting shows back home. I was 16 years old and I freaked and went broke with every show I took part in setting up. But I'm really happy I did those shows back then together with my friends. I got to see some incredible bands play and it helped me understand the uncomfortable economic realities of it all.

"Well, everyone who came to that Utah show left with a smile on their face, just a little stronger and with some more glow inside. I love that. It's what the rock is all about. Business, yeah it's there, and it has to be dealt with by those of us who want to make it happen. But with all this, what really counts is that hour of something other. Something that makes the soul soar and reminds us all why we are alive."
